'Be on your guard' Nathan Carter reveals he almost was scammed two weeks ago
Country singer Nathan Carter has revealed he was almost a victim of a scam two weeks ago after he thought a network provider was looking for his bank details. The star appeared on RTE Radio 1's Liveline on Monday afternoon to warn fans not to fall for online scammers pretending to be him. Today's top videos It comes after he revealed to the Sunday Independent that a female fan was conned out of €81,000 of her life savings by fraudsters pretending to be him. He said: 'I got a phone call from Vodafone two weeks ago, and I nearly ended up giving my bank details across the phone because I thought it was Vodafone, and it wasn't. 'So, like, it literally can happen to anyone, and yeah, people just need to be thinking twice before handing over any information, especially when it comes to bank accounts, and when it comes to money. Pic: Facebook It comes after the Liverpudlian singer said he had to call the police after a woman was scammed out of her life savings earlier this year. He told the Sunday newspaper: 'The family contacted us on numerous occasions and we got the police involved over there. The poor lady wouldn’t believe it wasn’t me she was chatting to. It was horrendous. 'I’ve put up loads of warnings on social media through the years urging people to please be aware of fake social media accounts pretending to be myself. 'We stressed that "Nathan will never contact you for money or ask you to send personal bank details". This is an ongoing issue, not just for me but for other entertainers as well.' 'There have been about 10 of them that I know of who have lost money in the scams over the last five or six years. 'The fraudsters are pretending to be me and they’re appealing for money for projects such as work on my house or to fund a new album. 'It’s messages like, "I’m not gigging that much at the minute and I need a bit of a help out."'
