Olivia Rodrigo’s Gross Confession: Yes, She’s “Smelled” Fans in the Front Row of Her Concerts
Highlights Olivia Rodrigo admits she’s “smelled” fans wearing diapers to keep front-row spots at shows She made the confession on KISS FM UK while promoting her new album The diaper trend isn’t new and was also seen during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Olivia Rodrigo has a nose for her most committed fans, and not in a good way. The “Drop Dead” singer stopped by KISS FM UK to promote her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love , and ended up dishing on one of the grosser realities of touring: some of her fans wear diapers to lock down a front-row spot, and she knows it. “I have been to certain concerts and certain festivals where people wear diapers so that they can be front row of the show,” Rodrigo said , “and that’s been an experience as a performer that I have smelled.” The confession reportedly horrified hosts Tyler West and Chloe Burrows , who had asked the 23-year-old about the worst place she’d ever had to relieve herself. Rodrigo dodged the actual question and pivoted straight to diaper territory instead. Photo by IPA/INSTARimages This isn’t the first time the topic has come up for her. During her headlining performance at BST Hyde Park Festival, the singer spotted a fan holding a sign that read, “Wearing diapers for the front row.” Rather than recoil, Rodrigo ate it up in the moment. She addressed the crowd, “There’s a sign that says ‘wearing diapers for the front row’. Is that true? Did you guys wear diapers? You’re wearing a diaper right now to be in the front row? Wow. That is actually amazing. I love you. Thank you for doing that. That’s crazy.” So no shame from Olivia, who clearly thinks the dedication is its own kind of art form. She also revealed the practice lives rent-free in her head. “Like the [Times Square] Ball Drop on New Year’s Eve, everyone is wearing diapers, they sit there all day. I think about it kind of often,” she said. Her Livvies aren’t the only ones doing it. During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour , some fans admitted to wearing them in order to not miss a moment of the pop superstar’s three-hour-long set. The internet, predictably, was not as charmed as Olivia. The comments quickly sparked debate across social media, with music fans divided over whether the practice represents admirable commitment or takes concert culture too far. Defenders had a point about the money involved. Supporters argue that fans often spend hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars on premium floor tickets and may queue for hours to secure the best possible view. Plenty of others were just plain repulsed by the whole thing.
