It’s probably not surprising to hear that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s upcoming nuptials are expected to be a massive production, since it has been dubbed “the wedding of the year.” Go big or go home! That seems to be the motto for the pop princess and the NFL star, because Madison Square Garden — the rumored location — is a huge undertaking for any wedding planner. Page Six revealed that Mark Seed is in charge of the July 3 event, and he’s known to “build something spectacular out of nothing.” And build they will! The basic structure of the space doesn’t seem that special, but with an “ Eras – Tour level production,” the arena will look spectacular. “It’s doable, but it is like planning a concert. What might be a $300,000 wedding somewhere else, inside the Garden would be $3 million,” event planner Darren Olarsch told the media outlet. That means lots of drapery and “overhead structures” to make the space feel “romantic, close and intimate.” Even though there is a roof over their heads, Seed will probably be “build[ing] the wedding venue on the floor. Your own mini stage, dance floor, and surrounding tables that are all right there; a venue within a venue.” With TMZ reporting that the dynamic duo has invited 1,000 guests to their ceremony, the price tag for the wedding weekend could be quite steep. NYC wedding planner Sonal Shah estimated to the New York Post that renting the space on a Saturday night could cost “$1 million to $2.5 million.” “A weekend night at one of the most iconic venues in the world is not just about renting the space — you’re also paying for exclusivity, staffing, security, operations, and the opportunity cost of a concert or sporting event that could otherwise be taking place,” she continued. “Once you add production, security, catering, entertainment, and décor, a Madison Square Garden wedding could very realistically become a $10 million to $20 million-plus event.” Swift and Kelce are also both very social personalities, so it’s not just a wedding space and reception — they will likely want a cocktail hour, a post-party, and other cozy rooms for their guests to mix and mingle. It has to be extravagant for one of music’s biggest stars and one of football’s most prominent figures — it’s not only an A-list wedding, but also an iconic pop culture moment.
