Wellness / Hygiene
Body care, fragrance stacking, scalp rituals, and nail care — because smelling like heaven and feeling like it are both part of the routine.
The Signature Move
One perfume is basic. A layered scent signature is a whole personality. Here's the 6-step protocol for a desi scent that literally announces you before you enter the room.
Start with a matching or neutral-scented body wash. Fragrance clings to clean, moisturised skin — skip this and your perfume lasts 2 hours max.
While skin is slightly damp, apply an unscented lotion on pulse points: wrists, neck, inner elbows, behind knees. This traps fragrance molecules and doubles longevity.
Apply desi attar (rose, sandalwood, oud) to pulse points. This is your base note — rich, long-lasting, distinctly South Asian. Al Haramain, Ajmal, or Swiss Arabian are cult picks.
Spray your main perfume from 15–20cm away. Hold at chest height for neck projection. Never rub — it breaks the scent molecules. Let it dry naturally.
Hair holds fragrance incredibly well. Spray a light mist on your hairbrush and run through — or use a dedicated hair perfume. Never spray directly onto colour-treated hair.
Spray fabric from 30cm away for an outer projection layer. Fabrics like lawn, cotton, and linen hold scent all day. Avoid spraying on silk or delicate embroidery.
Because your body skin has a type too — and most of us are using the wrong products for it.
Tight feeling after shower, flaky patches, ashy elbows/knees
Avoid
Soap bars with sulphates, alcohol-heavy body sprays, hot showers
Shine by afternoon, body acne (bacne), sticky feeling in summer
Avoid
Heavy oils, thick butter creams, over-exfoliating (worsens oil production)
Dry arms/legs but oily chest/back, seasonal texture changes
Avoid
One-product-fits-all approach, ignoring seasonal skin shifts
Rub desi ghee or almond oil into cuticles nightly. Push back gently with a wooden stick after shower — never cut dry cuticles. Your mehendi lasts longer on well-moisturised hands too.
Mix besan + lemon juice + a drop of honey. Apply for 10 min weekly. Fades sun tan and knuckle darkness without harsh chemicals. Follow with hand cream — always.
Soak nails in warm olive oil + garlic for 10 min weekly. Biotin-rich foods (eggs, dahi, almonds) support nail growth from the inside. Stop peeling gel polish yourself.
File in one direction only — back and forth creates micro-cracks. Square with rounded edges suits most desi nail shapes. Buff before applying nail colour for smoother finish.
Scalp = Soil
Sarson/mustard oil scalp massage 30 min before shampoo — boosts circulation and hair growth
Diluted ACV rinse (1:5 ratio) weekly to balance scalp pH and reduce dandruff
Don't wash every day — 2–3x per week for most hair types
Bhringraj oil (brahmi + bhringraj) for hair fall — the clinical studies back it up
Cold water final rinse closes the cuticle = more shine
Onion juice applied 1 hour before wash — proven to stimulate growth
